Emerging from the Bog of Exhaustion

Burnout at work has become so common that we can’t often see it. The real problem is not paying attention. Because without really identifying – and then addressing – it, the effects of continued stress and exhaustion can take a true toll on the body, mind, and soul.

So you’re here. And no, it’s not the ideal place to be. But the good news? You haven’t gotten so off-course in the Desert of Burnout that it will take a mythic quest to find your way back!

Use these three strategies right now to help relieve some of your workplace fatigue:

  1. Take a deep breath in this very moment, and say, “I am one person. I am doing everything I can.” Repeat as needed.

  2. Go directly to your work calendar and set up at least one 15 minute meeting with yourself per day. Meeting description should include whatever you want to do to completely shut out workplace sounds, noise, and interactions.

  3. Set one more meeting with yourself to re-evaluate your work day against your internal clock. Social in the morning and most productive in the last two hours a day? Remember to schedule a.m. meetings and block calendar time for a sprint to the workday finish.
