So screamed the headlines at CNBC this year as journalists followed the story of worker dissatisfaction from the United States to Asia to Europe and South America. It now appears that no corner of the market has been left untouched by the shock of the pandemic and what that did to make workers think differently about their relationship to the job.
After the pandemic sent tens of millions workers home to try and stem the ferocity of the virus, something strange happened. People liked working from home. They didn’t miss the commute and the office gossip and the expenses of driving and parking and dressing up. Right now 70% of workers say they will quit if not given the option to work remotely, and many have simply quit already and launched themselves into the freelance life.
